Asbestos Awareness

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002 (COSHH) regulations, employers have a legal duty to provide adequate control of employees’ exposure to harmful substances in the workplace.

Asbestos is a highly hazardous substance which causes serious ill-health to anyone who disturbs it. It is because of the highly dangerous nature of asbestos that anyone who is likely to disturb or come into contact with asbestos in their work must have an awareness of the correct health and safety procedures to follow.

Safe Use of Compressed Gas cylinders

This course is designed for anyone involved in the use, handling, storage or transportation of compressed gas cylinders and is an essential qualification for all managers, supervisors, inspectors and personel who work with gases and oxygen-fuel welding/cutting equipment. This intervention is also essential for those who help shape safety policy within their organisation.

Safe Use of Angle Grinders

Angle grinders are versatile hand-held tools commonly used in the manufacturing industry, in particular the metal fabrication sector. Their ability to perform a variety of tasks is due to the different accessories that can be attached to them. The type of attachment placed on an angle grinder depends on the task being performed and the materials being used. The most common uses for angle grinders include grinding (with abrasive discs) and cutting (with cut-off discs) – however attachments will vary depending on whether the operator is working with metal, stone, tiles or other materials.

Working at Height and Personal Fall Arrest Equipment

The GHC working at Height and Personal Fall Protection course delivers a minimum of four hours of both theory and hands-on harness/lanyard instruction and assessment, affording delegates with a good understanding of the principles for working at height, using and carrying out pre-use inspections of Safety Harnesses, Lanyards, and Connectors in the workplace. This course also provides each delegate with a base theoretical knowledge of the work at height regulations required to effectively reduce the risks associated with working at height, the hierarchy of controls, correct pre-use inspection and using personal prevention and protection systems for fall restraint, work positioning and arrest.

Vehicle Banksman

Vehicle Banksman training assures that an organisation and its operators work alongside with the relevant legal requirements. It is designed to help reduce damaging accidents when carrying out vehicle manoeuvres. Almost a quarter of all vehicle-based fatalities that occur are due to a reversing vehicles at work.

Confined Space Awareness

This GHC training intervention is targeted at anyone whose work requires them to enter a confined space, this includes, managers, supervisors, operators and rescuers. The course is designed as an introduction to working safely in confined spaces therefore no pre-requisite training is needed.

​A confined space is any area which is substantially enclosed and where there are risks to health and safety from hazardous substances or hazardous conditions. If you, or your employees are required to work under such conditions then regular training is recommended.

Abrasive Wheels

This half day training course is aimed at anyone who selects, mounts or uses abrasive wheels. The course covers different the different aspects and types of abrasive wheels, including, pre-use inspection to wheels and tools, hazards, correct PPE and the  correct cutting/grinding techniques and correct selection of abrasive wheels. This course has both a theory and practical element

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

This Control of Substances Hazardous to Health course provides appropriate training for all levels of employees who work, or may come into contact with, hazardous substances in their workplace. All employees must have the necessary knowledge to be competent and conduct their job role correctly.

Risk Assessment

This In-House qualification is designed to introduce the principles of risk assessment. It covers why risk assessments are necessary, the legal requirements relating to them and simple processes for carrying them out.

​It is suitable for delegates working in any environment who need to be more risk aware by raising their knowledge of risk in the workplace and the basic steps they can take to control it.

​This course is a trainer-led course that is delivered over half of one day.

Safe Manual Handling Techniques

This intervention is for those employees who conduct as part of their duties in the workplace, manual handling activities and is suitable for employee at all levels within the organisation.

​Successful completion of this training intervention will prepare delegates to look critically at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and practices, in collaboration with their supervisors and managers. The qualification is not intended to train students to carry out manual handling risk assessments, bur to teach correct lifting and carrying techniques

Ladder Safety

Falls from ladders are one of the leading causes of occupational injuries. The intent of this Ladder safety course is to serve as a reference for employers and employees in the safe use of ladders in the workplace.

This training highlights best practices for setting up and using ladders safely and is designed to help employers and employees do their jobs safety and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Etc. Act 1974 and the relevant subservient regulations.

Display Screen Equipment

This Display Screen Equipment training intervention from Graham Howard Consulting helps all employees throughout the organisation meet the requirements of the ‘Display Screen Equipment Regulations’ by following the Health and Safety Executive’s Guidance note on the Regulations (L26) to ensure they are not exposing themselves to risk.

Respiratory Protective Equipment

Respiratory Protective Equipment Training (RPE) is required where RPE is provided. There is a requirement for it to be suitable for the wearer, environment and task and for those wearing it to be suitably trained in its safe use.
